Premier Escape Adventures, Florida’s Newest Escape Room.

What is an Escape Room?

An Escape Room is a live-action, fully immersive, puzzle challenge experience where you enter a themed and decorated room based on a story for your assigned mission. You must work together with your team to solve a series of puzzles and riddles by using clues, hints and strategies to “escape” the mission at hand in a set amount of time.

Who can play an Escape Room?

Escape Rooms are a multi-generational adventure game for players from 9-99! Most escape rooms are great for families, friends and coworkers.  While some may be a little scary or downright terrifying, depending on the theme, rest assured, those at Premier Escape Adventures are family friendly and suitable for most children over 10.

Keep in mind, most escape rooms have their own guidelines and limitations, it may not be the best idea to bring your 2 or 3 year old with you. Some kids under 10 may not be able to fully comprehend the concept or puzzles and therefore could get bored. You know your child best, so use your best judgment. If you have children under 10, we highly recommend that you book a private room for your party.

How Do I Book an Escape Room?

Gather a group of people you want to play with. Our games can accompany from 2 to 8 players. Decide on what theme or game you’d like to play, the day you’d like to come and select a time based on availability from our calendar. Book or Reserve your selected spot and arrive with your group in time for your game. Have a larger group? No problem! Call us and we will help you plan your game. Looking for a GNO? Bachelorette or Bachelor party? Company Team Building?  We can accommodate all of this!

Public or Private Bookings? You may be wondering, what is the difference between Public and Private games? Well, Public bookings are available for people to book for up to the maximum capacity the game holds. For instance, if a room is able to hold from 2-8 players and you’re a party of 2, then there are technically still 6 spots open and available to sell. That means you could possibly be paired up with other people to play the game. Does this always happen? No, but as long as you know there is a possibility. During slower time it is less likely but still could happen. This can be good or bad. I have played with strangers and have had great experiences and made new friends and I’ve also had mediocre experiences. Sometimes you may want to be paired with more people to help out and other times you may want to conquer it yourselves. Either way is fine as long as you know ahead of time. I personally have missed playing some great games that didn’t have public bookings because I was traveling alone and couldn’t (or wouldn’t) book for just 1 person. I’ve also jumped into other peoples games and we’ve had a blast!

Private bookings are just that, private to just your group and you will not be paired with anyone else. Some companies are exclusively private and others may charge an additional fee to give you that option.

At Premier Escape Adventures we offer both options.

What Should I Know Before I Play an Escape Room?

You’ve decided to play an escape room. You’ve made your reservation and are awaiting your arrival to start your game. What can you expect before you start? Once you arrive at your escape room location, you will most likely be asked to fill out a waiver. The waiver is an agreement that you assume all risk and release liability associated with your activity or adventure. Some may also include a non-disclosure, stating you won’t spill or spoil any of the secrets in the game for future players. Along with the waiver, you may be asked for your email or phone number as many companies use this as a form of communication to share your team photo with you and also keep you informed of special offers or announcements.

After the waiver signing is complete, you may be given an opportunity to use the restrooms, lock up or place your purse, phone, keys or other personal items somewhere safe during your game.

On to the rules, each company approaches this in a different way. Here at Premier Escape Adventures, we have a very short video we show to our guests. The rules video indicates some basic things to be aware of, such as:

  • This is a game of brain work, problem solving and teamwork. No need to use force, brawn or prying things open or off the walls.
  • No need to climb on the furniture. Everything you need will be at arm’s reach.
  • Communicate with your team for the best outcome.
  • How you will receive your clues and how many you can receive.
  • How much time you have to complete your game, Ours are typically 1 hour.
  • Cell phone/photography usage and guidelines.
  • How to get out of the room in case of an emergency. Our doors are NEVER locked.

Next, we have another short pre-show video to show you what your mission is. This video is themed to the game you are about to play. Again, not all escape room companies use video before your game; this is how Premier Escape Adventures prefers to do it.

What can I expect once in the game?

Once your team enters your themed game and your timer starts you’ll want to immediately start exploring the room and searching for clues. Use the elements in the room to direct you. One thing we can’t express enough is COMMUNICATE with your team. Let everyone in your group know what you’ve discovered along the way. Communicating will help your team progress. Every mind thinks and process things differently so share what you have with the rest of your team. By doing so you are increasing the success rate of your game.

Search the room thoroughly. Don’t overlook any inch.  Back to communication; make sure everyone knows what you’ve found.

When you’ve used a key or combination to open a lock, leave the lock where you’ve found it. 99% of the time you won’t use that key or code again. Think one and done.

Locks! It’s kind of what an escape room is made of. There are many different types of locks; Keyed locks, numerical combination, letter combination, 3, 4 or 5 digit or letter or both alphanumeric. Some get lined up on the front or face of the lock, some on the side or edge; some have buttons that need to be pushed in. If you feel you have the correct combo and the lock will not open, make sure it has been reset and try again or let another player have a chance at it. Sometimes it just takes another set of hands/eyes to get it open. I’ve seen many players waste a lot of time by not lining up the code in the correct spot or not resetting it. Passing it off to the next person can help assuming you have the correct code. Directional (instead of numbers, you push the lock in a series of directions – right, left, up or down) Electromagnetic locks, may need to complete a puzzle or task to complete the circuit. These are not locks you actually see, they are more hidden and will magically open something.

There are different types of games by design, some games you’ll need to solve one puzzle in order to progress to the next and so on. This is called linear. There are also non-linear games. This type of game means there are more than one puzzle path that can be completed and multiple people can be working on different puzzles at the same time and the order of completion won’t matter. In most cases, you may not realize which type of game you are playing before hand. Why are we telling you this? Just to be aware that while someone is working on a puzzle, there may be something else another group could be working on.

Why should I play an Escape Room?

An escape room is a great way to escape your reality, even if it is just for an hour. It’s an opportunity to forget other aspects in your life. You can escape being a mom or an office manager or someone who has a demanding job or life and could just use a break. Or maybe it’s the opposite and you need some bonding time. An escape room is a great way of bonding and building relationships with family, friends or coworkers.

Players must work together to discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks in the game in order to progress and accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time. If you progress and complete the final puzzle in the allotted time, your team wins the game!

How did Premier Escape Adventures get started?

Kristine & Scott Vaillancourt are the owners of Premier Escape Adventures. They started playing escape rooms back in 2016 with their kids. The first one played left a little to be desired. Not really knowing what it was all about, they liked the concept and decided to try another. Luckily they did because that one was better. They played another and another and eventually started planning their trips around the country to places where they heard there were great escape rooms. Through their travels they have played almost 100 games in at least 8 states, 2 countries and 1 on a Cruise Ship. It didn’t take long before they got the bug to want to open their own. East Bradenton / Lakewood Ranch, FL was heavily lacking in family entertainment and it just made sense to open in that particular area in Manatee County. They spent a few years researching the business that was a relatively new concept. They knew they didn’t want a franchise but wanted to be independent owners. They attended trade shows and seminars, talked to other owners and kept researching.

Scott and Kristine are not new to being business owners. Scott by trade is a local licensed contractor and would do the building and construction for the escape rooms. They looked and looked for the perfect location and it was not easy to find. They were also at the mercy of the county where they could operate based on zoning laws. They thought they found a location only to find out the zoning wasn’t right for this type of business. They kept looking and eventually found the perfect location, located in the Creekwood Shopping Center at SR70 & I-75. This is a fairly high traffic shopping center anchored by Lowes, Chick Fil-A, Bealls, Dollar Tree and Big Lots. Shortly after Premier Escape Adventures opened, DEFY Trampoline Park also opened driving more traffic to the shopping center. What a great opportunity for parents to drop their kids off to bounce around and they could head down to us to “escape” themselves for an hour, RIGHT?

Scott and Kristine got their keys in hand in December 2018 and started the process to build the area’s largest Escape Room and Virtual Reality center in the surrounding counties. The construction process moved fast for 2 people and a couple friends helping out, and by May 2019 they were ready to open the doors. They opened on May 24th 2019 with Date Night Disaster and 4 Virtual Reality Gaming Stations. 1 week later Houdini’s Book of Secret’s was finished and opened as well.  Each Escape Room game can hold 2-8 players.

They started construction on their next game and then put it on hold when they decided they’d like to offer a Christmas themed game for the holidays. They got started on that one, and ended up using that space to make two identical copies of the game, this means a larger group can be split into two groups and compete or race against each other to see who escapes first. Crisis at the North Pole opened in mid November 2019 and turned out to be a fun game and continues to book so we’ve decided to keep it open a little longer. Don’t think for a minute that this is a game just for kids. It’s great and has challenged adults too.

Now that the holidays are over we hope to resume construction on the other game and will make additional announcements on the progress soon so stay tuned.
